Spiritual GrowthSubmitted by adamf on Tue, 19/08/2008 - 12:17pm |
Well, I've done a bit of Spiritual growth lately. Actually that's an understatement, I've grown leaps and bounds in the last year and continue to grow. One of the things I always wondered about was what people meant when they said God spoke to them. I always wondered if it was a loud voice and if it was then how could you be sure it was from God and that you weren't insane ?
Recently the Holy Spirit has spoken to me audibly only a few times but man is it fantastic when he does ! As far as I can say the voice sounds a little like my own voice in my head but it brings a thought that is completely out of left field and it has a certain 'presence' associated with it. It seems that the Holy Spirit's job for me at the moment is to correct and teach me. I'm really happy with that.
I was recently at a Promise Keepers event, which I also attended last year, and that was what got me on my Spiritual journey. I was lucky enough to have one of the guys from Promise Keepers pray over me and give me a word from God. He said 'Be Courageous'. I could feel something move in my heart when he said this and I knew it was true as well. I knew that I had missed opportunities to minister to people because I had not taken the chance to talk to them.
The next day at Church I decided I should share my testimony. I quickly scribbled it down in less than an hour and told our minister that I wished to share it as well as have an altar call 15 minutes before the service. I was lucky because she is very understanding and wanted me to do this. I was also on sound desk that day and so I was at the sound desk when a member of the congregation asked 'if I was under a bushel ?' which was kind of ironic because it felt like I was filled with the spirit but just needed my time to shine.
I also found out the day after that what the Korean word for courage is. It is Yong-Gi, this will most likely not mean anything to you but I was recently reading a book written by a Korean Pastor by the name of 'Cho Yong-Gi' ... his first name means Courage. This book (The Fourth Dimension) had a huge impact on me. It talks about spiritual gifts and how to pray and receive through faith.
So I guess I have learnt that often when God confirms something I have done he does it by uncanny coincidences. It is said that if we are to move in faith then a sign will follow us. In my case these signs seem to be these coincidences I'm talking about.
